Why would happiness make people feel blessed?

Among all the emotions, happiness is always the one that we would desperately chase after. As long as we stay in the mood of pleasure, the feelings of satisfaction, fulfillment and joy would naturally come along. But why would happiness make people feel blessed?  It turns out that when we smile, our brains will actively release three hormones that promote happiness – Serotonin, Dopamine and Endorphins.

  1. Serotonin is known as ‘Happy Hormones’ which can help people feeling relaxed and stabilizing the mood
  2. Dopamine is called ‘Happy Chemical’ that makes you feel pleasurably rewarded in that your concentration and motivation will be boosted up when completing a task
  3. Endorphins bring a sense of well-being that helps activating the brain and produce a feeling of joy

Reward lies ahead of diligence but is that really true that nothing is gained by playing?

In this society, we are often driven by a way of thinking of ‘what positive impact it might bring to my life?’ before we do anything. If we are interested in painting, we would think whether becoming a painter could make a living; the reason of sitting for the piano grading exam as it is beneficial to enter a school of a higher grade; we learn a foreign language just to enhance our competitiveness in work……Gradually, we only select our entertainment, hobbies that are useful, and we would only choose those that could help us to achieve some targets, to experience and to grow. We tend to calculate how much time we have spent on entertainment and we would feel guilty if we had played more than we planned and we need to do more ‘useful’ things to compensate. Look around, did we follow our hearts to do something that is just as simple as ‘hang-around’? For how long have we not just recklessly doing something that we love?

I want to spend a day idling with you

In fact, not everything has to be done with an objective. In retrospect to our childhood, we would be happy because we went to a park, talked endlessly on the phone with friends, and we could reminisce about it for a whole day. Actually, we can casually hang around or slack off and this is one of the ways that makes us happy. Entertainment is crucial, idling is also necessary, or it could be meaningless. There is no absolute answer of ‘playing’. You may come to LevelMind@JC to find your own private space for idling and doing nothing; or you may run a movie marathon with your friends...

Let’s try to lay down your usual restrained self, get back to having fun, to chill out and let yourself be full of happiness again!
