Why do we feel fear?

Fear is a powerful emotion we’re born with, which plays an important role in our lives. When we’re in danger, we often experience muscle tension, a racing heartbeat as well as heavy breathing. And we also tend to think faster. All these reactions prepare us for the threats in the environment. However, each person is afraid of different things, and fear may be triggered more easily when we encounter certain situations or objects.
Fear turns you into a control freak without you knowing!
Sometimes, we make comprehensive plans and ensure that everything is under control to prepare ourselves for unexpected situations, because we worry that we can’t handle the surprise when things go wrong. If you look closely, you will find that there’s always a control freak around you. They plan their trips in extreme detail, work meticulously, allow no mistakes, and even have backups for their dinner plans. They’re always well-prepared and hope that things will just go as they desire. You may think that there’s no harm being more prepared. Indeed, it will make you feel more secure, but how much time and effort do you need to put in to achieve such a result? And how much pressure do you have to endure? Besides, you’re not putting pressure only on yourself, but on people around you as well. In order to meet your expectations, they do whatever you want them to do as they don’t want you to worry. Perhaps they can keep at it for a day, a month or a year, but what about the long run? In the end, they will gradually get tired of it, posing a negative impact on your relationship.
Being overly sensitive eventually leads to anxiety and fear
Every one of us experiences anxiety at some point in our lives. We will become sensitive to the surroundings and get worried that the potential threats hidden in the dark may catch us off guard, hence keeping us in a state of anxiety and fear. And yet, being overly sensitive to the environment, including little noises, may lead to an outburst of infinite imagination and negative thoughts, which in turn, affect our daily life and result in anxiety disorders. In fact, no one wants to live a stressful and exhausting life. So, what should we do when we encounter sudden events? Sudden events happen when you least expect them. Even if we think of a hundred ways to deal with them, there will always be another problem. We can never be 100% prepared. Do know, however, that everything we go through allows us to grow, and if we refuse to face any unexpected incidents, we will never be able to get out of our own little circle. The unknown indeed makes us feel anxious. Yet, the only way to reduce fear amidst waves of anxiety is to accept the unknown, embrace your distress, and live in the present. Let us all work together towards coexisting with fear step by step!
