Welcoming the Year of the Horse

The Sunshine Within - Chiu Chou Association Secondary School
Arc

Activity description

This activity is co-hosted by the club, the Library Department, the Chinese Subject Department and, Parent-Teacher Association. The activity aimed to bring hoy into the campus through a variety of cultural activities. It successfully combined static art with interaction, allowing students to enjoy while cater diverse interests and mental bell-being of students.

Activity highlight

The event was filled with a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, with all three experience zones proving to be huge hits among the students:

  • Inter-class Fai Chun competition & Calligraphy workshop: A professional calligraphy instructor was brought in to provide live guidance. By writing traditional Fai Chun banners by hand, students focused their minds on every stroke, deeply experiencing the 'mindful' power of calligraphy and finding a moment of inner peace amid their busy school lives.
  • Traditional Craft Booths (Papercutting & Rubbing): Students enjoyed hands-on papercutting and traditional ink-rubbing activities packed with festive flair. The intricate process of papercutting required deep concentration and fine technique, helping students temporarily set aside their academic stress. Meanwhile, the rubbing activity introduced them to the joy of traditional printing, allowing them to create one-of-a-kind Year of the Horse keepsakes to take home.
  • New Year Treats Shared by Parent Volunteers: Hosted by parent volunteers from the Parent-Teacher Association, this station brought care and warmth to the campus as parents distributed New Year treats and candies. Sharing sweet treats gave students an immediate mood boost, creating a bustling, heart-warming holiday atmosphere.
Students got to experience rubbing and enjoyed the creation process.

Purpose behind this activity

Through this vibrant blend of cultural experiences and festive treats, we hoped to guide students in appreciating traditional culture while unwinding and shaking off stress through hands-on interaction. Every element of the activity was closely aligned with the '4Rs Mental Health Charter,' encouraging students to practice Rest, Relaxation, Relationship, and Resilience in their daily school lives—working toward the long-term goal of continuously boosting student mental well-being.
