Tranquility in Chinese Culture: Nurturing Mind, Body, and Soul

Soul Station - Buddhist May Fung Memorial College
Arc

Activity description

During lunchtime, the Wellness Club organized the "Tranquility in Chinese Culture: Nurturing Mind, Body, and Soul" activity. By making festive Dragon Boat Festival scented sachets and ornaments, the event provided a platform for emotional relaxation and social support for students facing exam stress. Integrated with a school-based program, the activity featured a rice dumpling tasting session alongside handicraft making. Through these interactive sessions, the Society aimed to help students alleviate pre-exam anxiety, take a break from intense revision, and immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere. Throughout the event, students exchanged exam preparation tips, test-taking strategies, and personal reflections on school life with their peers.

Activity highlight

In June, the Wellness Club "Soul Station" successfully hosted the third wellness activity. Committee members held a lunch session at the Student Activity Centre (SAC), allowing nearly 50 students to enjoy a moment of peace for their body, mind, and soul. Integrating traditional Chinese culture and festive elements of the Dragon Boat Festival, the activity consisted of several key highlights:

  • Tasting Specialty Rice Dumplings: Students enjoyed the traditional classic cuisine of the Dragon Boat Festival together, experiencing a warm and relaxed festive atmosphere.
  • Sewing Dragon Boat Scented Sachets: Through the sewing process, students focused their attention on their hand movements and the aroma of herbs, naturally entering a relaxed and focused state.
  • Dragon Boat Themed Ornament DIY: Through cutting, pasting, weaving, and assembly, students experienced a state of "flow" brought on by creative focus, temporarily putting aside their academic and workload worries. After completing their pieces, students appreciated each other's work, gaining a sense of accomplishment and belonging.
Students are crafting themed accessories, immersing themselves in the moment of focused creation.

Purpose behind this activity

To offer a platform for emotional relaxation and social support for students facing exam stress, the Wellness Club hopes that handcrafting items, such as mug wort sachets and Dragon Boat Festival ornaments, will allow students to unwind and relieve pressure through creative crafting.
