Space Out Competition

Activity description
The club organised a Space Out Competition to help students prevent burnout and practice mindfulness. Participants were asked to sit quietly on a yoga mat for 30 minutes while wearing a heart-rate monitor. During this time, they remained in complete silence and focused on staying calm and still, allowing their bodies to relax naturally. At the end of the session, participants with the most stable heart rate or the largest decrease in heart rate were awarded prizes. The activity encourages students to slow down, clear their minds, and become more aware of their breathing and body.
Activity highlight
The activity took place on March 10 during lunchtime, with around 30 students signing up to participate. Overall, the event was a success, and the students really enjoyed the competition and were excited to receive the prizes at the end. In addition to the participants, many students who had not signed up also came to watch and support their friends, which helped create a lively and fun atmosphere. However, because of the larger crowd, it was sometimes more challenging to keep the room quiet during the activity.
Participants were fully immersed in the competition. Even when a helper had to approach them to check their heart rate, they did their utmost not to be distracted and remained focused on the competition.
Purpose behind this activity
The purpose of this event was to give students a chance to clear their minds and take a break from their busy schedules. Through this activity, students could practice being present in the moment and learn simple ways to relax and manage stress. Students at the school often have demanding academic workloads and many extracurricular commitments. This event provided them with dedicated time to slow down, rest, and take care of both their mind and body.
