Saltfish Game Round 1: Real·Tin-ha Taai-ping

Grove Solace - Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School (Shatin)
Arc

Activity description

Each game features two teams competing simultaneously in "Tin Ha Tai Ping." Each team consists of five participants, including at least one teacher or form 6 student. The total game time is 15 minutes, divided into 1-minute rounds.

At the start of each round, the two captains play Rock-Paper-Scissors to determine control. The winner decides whether to attack (throw beanbags to hit the opponent's defensive props or their "Tin," "Ha," "Tai," or "Ping" targets) or defend (set up additional defensive props). The losing team must wait until they win the next Rock-Paper-Scissors to regain control.

To win, a team must eliminate the opponent's "Tin," "Ha," "Tai," and "Ping" within the time limit. If neither team achieves this by the end of the 15 minutes, the team with the most remaining targets on the field is declared the winner.

Activity highlight

A total of 81 students and 9 teachers participated in the event. The collaboration between them was seamless as they worked together to strategize, share beanbag-throwing tips, and strive for victory. The Rock-Paper-Scissors segment was a highlight of every round; both teachers and students, wearing their crowns, gave their all to win control for their teams, carefully placing defensive props or launching beanbag attacks in hopes of a swift victory.

In the final showdown, the two captains played Rock-Paper-Scissors to fight for the right to attack or defend. The students were bursting with excitement, eagerly awaiting the outcome of the round!

At the end of each session, club committee members led a debriefing session based on the 4Fs (Facts, Feelings, Findings, and Future), focusing on Resilience and Relationship from the 4Rs framework. We explored how these game experiences could be applied to daily life, helping students and teachers realize that they never have to face challenges alone—there are always teammates and teachers ready to walk alongside and support them.

The passion was so intense that one captain accidentally sustained a minor sprain during the excitement. This moment truly showcased the full commitment of our participants. Seeing team members immediately rush over to show care and concern was incredibly heartwarming. On a lighter note, some students were surprised to discover that their teachers were Rock-Paper-Scissors masters, proving they are definitely not to be underestimated!
