Paint Your Persona

Island Whisper Studio - Heung To Middle School (TSW)
Arc

Activity description

To encourage students to pause, reflect, and express their current state of mind, the club hosted a wooden plaque art workshop centered around the theme "Paint Your Persona". Through self-portraiture, the activity aimed to guide students in recognizing their emotions and inner needs, learning to view themselves with greater acceptance and gentleness.

During the activity, students painted self-portraits on the front of wooden plaques, using colors, expressions, and designs to capture their mood and personality. On the back, they wrote words of encouragement, hopes, and aspirations for their future selves. Upon completing their artwork, participants received traditional ema plaques and ice cream as keepsakes—giving everyone a sweet opportunity to unwind after reflecting and creating, while learning to care for their own emotional needs.

Activity highlight

On the day of the activity, crowds of students eagerly participated in the "Paint Your Persona" wooden plaque workshop, thoughtfully painting portraits of how they see themselves and writing heartfelt wishes and blessings for the future. Some used vibrant colors and patterns to capture their unique personalities, while others used writing to declutter their thoughts and reflect on their current goals and aspirations. Club committee members were on hand to help students hang their artwork on the display boards, bringing together a collective tapestry of "Our Present and Future."

Beyond the workshop, the ice cream truck emerged as one of the biggest hits of the day. After completing their creations, students lined up to claim their soft-serve ice cream, forming a lively queue that stretched all the way from the covered playground to the school cafeteria. Enjoying sweet treats while admiring each other's artwork, students filled the campus with laughter and energy.

The activity not only provided a well-deserved breather from exam and study stress, but also encouraged students—through creating, sharing, and connecting—to rediscover themselves, express who they are, and listen closely to their emotional needs.

Students worked together to paint the wooden plaques, exchanging ideas and expressing their thoughts during the creation process.

Purpose behind this activity

Through this activity, the club hoped to encourage students to take time to understand and appreciate themselves, learning to practice positive self-talk. By creating art, reflecting, and writing words of encouragement, students discovered that caring for their mental well-being begins with self-discovery.

Moving forward, the club hopes students will carry these inspiring messages and blessings into their daily lives. When facing stress and challenges, may they remember to pause, check in on their emotional well-being, and hold fast to their own value and strength.
