Mindfulness Breathing Zone

Helping You - Buddhist Sum Heung Lam Memorial College
Arc

Activity description

To help students find moments of peace amidst their busy academic lives, the club has specially established the “Mindfulness Breathing Zone” initiative. We invite students to learn relaxation, stress reduction and concentration through simple yet effective mindfulness exercises. On-site, iPads and headphone cables are provided, featuring a guided mindfulness session lasting approximately three minutes. Students may quietly experience this within the seating area, further relaxing mind and body with the use of a warm eye mask.

Upon completing the mindfulness session, participants will receive an ice cream voucher redeemable for a scoop at the snack bar – offering a double treat for both body and mind!

Activity highlight

The event drew a large crowd of students who stopped to participate. The booth was arranged in a warm and tranquil manner, featuring comfortable seating and warm eye masks, creating a cosy corner for relaxation. Many students initially approached with curiosity and a sense of experimentation. Yet the moment they donned the headphones and closed their eyes, their expressions gradually shifted from wonder to serenity. Several remarked that this marked their first encounter with mindfulness practice, yet they unexpectedly found the entire experience deeply enjoyable.

Upon completing the experience, each participant received an ice cream voucher to redeem for a delicious ice cream at the snack bar. This sweet treat was not merely a sensory delight but also served as a token of recognition – a reward acknowledging their courage to pause and attend to their inner selves. The entire activity concluded in a relaxed and warm atmosphere, leaving behind many smiles and cherished memories.

Purpose behind this activity

The club hopes that through this event, students will realise that mindfulness is neither difficult nor time-consuming. Even three minutes of mindful breathing can help us step back from tension, return to the present moment, and enhance emotional regulation and concentration. The club aspires to integrate mindfulness practice into daily campus life, encouraging students to utilise these techniques when facing academic pressures, exam anxieties, or interpersonal difficulties. This enables them to nurture their emotional wellbeing and cultivate a peaceful coexistence with themselves.
