Mental Health Awareness Day

Activity description
The club organized its largest activity of the year during the school’s Mental Health Awareness Day, which featured two hours of dedicated mental health and wellness activities for Year 7–9 students. The event included a wide variety of interactive and creative booths designed to promote relaxation, connection, self-expression, and resilience. Activities such as mint planting encouraged participants to learn about caring for something and nurturing growth over time, while friendship bracelet making highlighted the importance of peer support and meaningful relationships. Students also took part in hands-on creative activities including clay figure making, rock painting, colouring, and other art-based wellness activities that provided opportunities for mindfulness and stress relief.
In addition to the creative booths, the event included lively busking performances, mini basketball, mini pickleball, and other recreational games that helped create an energetic and welcoming atmosphere. One of the most popular activities was the “Hug-It-Out” T-shirt activity, where participants placed paint on their hands and arms before hugging one another, leaving colourful imprints on the shirts as a symbol of connection, support, and community. Overall, the event created a fun, engaging, and supportive environment that encouraged students to prioritize their mental wellbeing while strengthening relationships across the school community.
Activity highlight
The event was held on May 20th and, despite some unexpected rain, the activities were quickly moved indoors, allowing the event to continue smoothly without major disruptions. Since there were many different activity stations throughout the venue, each participant received a bingo card that listed all of the activities and their locations. This not only encouraged students to explore and participate in a variety of booths, but also served as a helpful guide for navigating the event. The overall atmosphere of the day was very fun, relaxed, and welcoming, with students appearing both excited and comfortable engaging in the different wellness activities. Club members also wore staff T-shirts throughout the event, making it easy for participants to identify who they could approach for directions or assistance. Thanks to the strong organization and teamwork of the club members, the event ran very smoothly and created a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Students partaking in our ‘Rock Painting’ activity, going beyond simple arts and crafts by acting as a therapeutic tool for student wellbeing. By transforming plain, smooth stones into personalized works of art, students engage in a mindful, grounding activity that encourages self-expression, reduces stress, and fosters a sense of community.
Purpose behind this activity
The purpose of this activity was to raise awareness about mental health and encourage students to take care of their wellbeing, especially during the stressful period leading up to exams. The event was designed to offer a wide range of activities so that students with different interests and personalities could participate in ways that felt enjoyable and comfortable for them. Through creative, recreational, and interactive activities, the event aimed to provide students with opportunities to relax, connect with others, and relieve stress in a supportive environment. Overall, the activity sought to foster a visible culture of support, resilience, and community within LUAC by encouraging students to uplift one another, normalize challenges, and recognize that personal growth and wellbeing are strengthened through shared experiences and mutual support.
